| DISTRIBUTION: WORLDWIDE ConAgra Foods in cooperation with the USDA and Center for Decease Control (CDC) is advising customers not to eat any Banquet pot pies or pot pies made by ConAgra Foods that have a printed code ending in "P9” on the side of the package. HAZARD: Possible Salmonella infection. These products are not ready to eat pot pies and company believes the issue is likely related to consumers undercooking the product. ConAgra is working with the USDA to revise packaging and cooking instructions. Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12-72 hours after infection. Infection is usually diagnosed by culture of a stool sample. The illness usually lasts 4 – 7 days. Although most people recover without treatment, severe infections may occur. Infants, elderly persons, and people with impaired immune systems are more likely than others to develop severe illness. In severe infection, Salmonella spreads from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other body sites, and death can occur if the person is not treated promptly with antibiotics. The recalled packages have the printed code “P9” on the side panel in the center just above the Best by date. Instructions to Customers: All customers may return the product to AAFES store for a full refund. Consumers should discard the product prior to returning the entire package to their retail store.
