Dear Valued Supplier,

This letter is to provide an update to the instructions you received from AAFES concerning non-manufactured wood products as shipping material.  Many countries, including the United States, have adopted various standards regulating pallets, crating, boxing and any other wood packing materials utilized in international shipments.

AAFES is providing the following Internet web sites for vendors to determine compliance with International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures, ISPM -15, the international standard regulating wood products.  All costs associated with meeting ISPM-15 are the supplier’s responsibility and will not be reimbursed by AAFES.

https://www.ippc.int/IPP/En/default.jsp

Although not a complete list, the following items should be compliant with all current import/export standards:

Items made of:

  • Plywood
  • Chipboard
  • Particle board
  • Pressed wood molded pallets
  • Cardboard
  • Plastic
  • Metal

Do not use Chemical Pressure Impregnated (CPI) or fumigated wood.  Although these measures meet the requirements of many countries, they are not recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and do not meet DOD requirements.

AAFES may charge the supplier for non-compliance with ISPM-15.  These costs can include packing, marking and administrative expenses.
