LABORATORY TEST METHOD NO. H-6

CORROSION RESISTANCE OF UMBRELLAS

1. PURPOSE:

To determine resistance to corrosion formation on umbrella ribs and spreaders made of steel,brass,chromium or other metals.

2. PRINCIPLE:

Umbrella is subjected to water and humidity under controlled conditions of time and temperature.

3. APPARATUS AND MATERIALS:

3.1 Launderometer 

3.2 Tap water 

3.3 Spray bottle or sink spray attachment 

3.4 Timer

4. PROCEDURE:

4.1 Fill launderometer with 38°C (100°F) water and close lid. 

4.2 Open umbrellas and spray water thoroughly around ribs, spreaders, and complete underside. Close umbrella and and place on top rack of launderometer, close lid. 

4.3 Set timer or make note of start time on paper. 

4.4 After 72 hours remove specimens.

5. EVALUATION:

Open specimens and visually check for any formation of corrosion on ribs or spreaders. Note any discoloration of fabric or plastic parts such as handle.

6. REPORT

Report any corrosion, its location, and any discoloration of fabric or plastic parts such as handle.
