A-10: Bursting Strength: Diaphram Bursting Strength Tester Method

  1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    To determine the amount of force required to rupture a knit fabric or non-woven fabric. Strength of fabric is generally associated with the serviceability of the fabric.
  2. PRINCIPLE:

    A specimen of the fabric is clamped over an expandable diaphragm. The diaphragm is Expanded by fluid pressure to the point of specimen rupture. The force is applied equally in All directions on the specimen.

  6. EVALUATION:

    Calculate the average of the three bursting strength readings on one specimen.
  7. REPORT:

    Report the above average figure as the bursting strength of the fabric tested. Bursting Strength is reported in either pounds per square inch or in grams per square centimeter.
