The Exchange Test Method

LABORATORY TEST METHOD NO. H-1: CLEANING EFFICIENCY OF DETERGENTS: TERRY TOWEL METHOD

Issue Date: 30 Apr 1993

Revision Date:09/30/2011

  1. PURPOSE:

To determine the cleaning performance of detergents on artificially soiled fabrics.
  2. PRINCIPLE:

Photo-volt meter is used to measure light reflectance of unsoiled areas, and soiled areas before and after cleaning with a detergent. Improvement in reflectance is noted to calculate cleaning efficiency.

  5. PROCEDURE:

  6. EVALUATION:

    Calculate the cleaning efficiency as follows: % of Cleaning efficiency = { (C-B) / (A-B) } x 100
  7. REPORT

Calculate and report cleaning efficiency for each type of fabric tested. Also, report hardness of the water used in the tests.
